Local elections and visits

Last month Natalie and Jenny were busy supporting local election campaigns and carrying the Green message to various venues around the country. Jenny spoke at a well attended rally against sewage in Newbury and Natalie visited the key seats where Greens are likely to make gains, including Bristol, Norwich, Waveney Valley and Stroud.

If you would like Jenny or Natalie to visit your area to highlight a key local issue, or to support a local campaign, then please get in touch.

Rwanda Act

The Rwanda Bill is vile and the Lords could have stopped it.

Labour Peers could have joined with the Greens and others in stopping it back in January. Deporting refugees to Rwanda, without any right of appeal, didn’t feature in the Conservative Party manifesto and MPs have no electoral mandate for it. This gave the Lords the option of stopping the bill completely but instead they sought to repeatedly put amendments which were doomed to fail.

Natalie summed up the feelings of many outside of parliament as the Lords finally gave way and let the Rwanda Bill pass, saying: “I have asked the House a number of times; if not now, when? What will it take to make to make this House say, here we take a stand? Now we’re letting through an attack on some of the most vulnerable, desperate people on this planet. What more will we let through?
