Facial recognition technology is being used a lot by police forces all over Britain and clearly has caused a lot of confusion and made a lot of mistakes
I intervened in a debate on Artificial Intelligence Regulation to say: One area of AI technology that has been used a lot without regulation for many years, and has been exposed as having some quite severe flaws, is that of facial recognition. It is being used a lot by police forces all over Britain and clearly has caused a lot of confusion and made a lot of mistakes. Will that be one area that the Minister will be looking at, specifically for regulation?
Info on this from Big Brother Watch: More police forces than ever are starting to use facial recognition technology, despite our ongoing legal challenge, and the fact that there is no specific legislation overseeing this technology. The EU’s AI Act is now in force, which hugely limits the use of facial recognition by police, while the UK is starkly at odds with this approach.
